SIR ELTON JOHN’S CONCERT HAS BEEN POSTPONED due to illness. The 62-year-old was due to end his Red Piano tour at the Kings Dock Arena in front of thousands of Merseyside fans tonight, and is the fourth show the singer has had to cancel. Concert promoters, Marshall Arts, the promoters, are now in talks with the arena to try to re-schedule the concert for December.
A LAST-DITCH ATTEMPT TO RESCUE MERSEYTRAM will take place today with two of the area's senior politicians calling on the rest of Merseyside to join them. Liverpool’s Labour group leader, Cllr Joe Anderson, and the Knowsley Council leader, Cllr Ron Round, called on politicians of all parties to unite behind the scheme. A leaked letter last week appeared to end any hopes for the Merseytram scheme, which has already had £70m spent on it.

Stagecoach’s 200 Merseyside buses are the first in the country to try out the new PayPass payment method, which means card carriers do not need to pay with cash, sign a slip or enter a PIN. Bosses said it should it should enable quicker and easier transactions.

This is now a non-event. So Bover Boy Anderson want s to save it. Well where is the money coming from,as Joe Anderson has never put together a Budget package in his life he will have great difficulty in finding the money as Local Gov, under Labour or the Tories will be decimated, and I can think of more important things to support like our OAPs and their Care which is high on the Lab Gov cuts,as they have bgeen telling Liverpool Council that they are spending too much money on Adult Care. So lets ditch this bloody tram,it is not needed,it will be a waste of money when we all ready have a Rail System running to Knowsley, why do we need another scheme running parallel. Also their aint going to be any money from Government.
Personally I'd prefer a high-speed railway line to the Eurostar terminal.
Can anybody give me 1 good reason why we need a tram running between Kirkby and the city centre? I have used the Kirkby-Central trains regularly for a long time and have always found them punctual, reliable, efficient and usually clean. What next? Spend millions of taxpayers money on plans for a new dual carriageway between Liverpool and Hull calling at St. Helens, Warrington, Manchester, Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and Leeds?
How on earth have they managed to spend £70,000,000 on without there being any tangible benefits? We need to bring back hanging.
According to the vote on LivConf, most of the readership wants the trams to avoid the poor, working people in the North End and stimulate economic growth, but to become yet another amenity for the whingeing, home counties ponces of Lark Lane so they can get to Speke more easily to fly out to their holiday homes in Tuscany and Provence.
Not Merseytram again. I'm getting fed up with this. The city that's busy doing nothing.
