Lone trial for Gerrard
SIX co-defendants of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, today admitted their involvement in a nightclub brawl when they appeared at Liverpool crown court. Gerrard denies affray and now faces trial alone.

The Liverpool captain is accused of being involved in an incident at the Lounge Inn, in Southport, that injured businessman Marcus McGee, 34, in the early hours of 29 December last year.

Gerrard was out celebrating Liverpool's 5-1 defeat of Newcastle United when the fight broke out.

Stabbing son held indefinitely
A JUDGE has ordered a paranoid schizophrenic who killed both his parents to be detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital. Alan Scott, 36, of Woolton, admitted manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility at an earlier hearing. Scott went to his parents' house in Redington Road in March 2008 and stabbed his 63-year-old mother, Stella Scott, 37 times and his 61-year-old father, Alan, 13 times. Liverpool Crown Court heard that Scott had suffered from psychotic illness for 20 years and had twice been sectioned.

Baboon yobs
KNOWSLY Safari Park has imposed asbos on its baboons after their increasingly bad behaviour. The Anti Social Baboon Orders were served after the baboons learned how to break into car top boxes. David Ross, safari park general manager, said, “it’s clear the baboons have acquired an unfortunate new skill.”

Inglenook shooting
A BARMAN at the Inglenook pub in Aigburth has been shot in both legs. Officers were called to the Ullet Road pub at about midnight on Sunday. |The motive is unclear, but police are examining CCTV footage.
