SELF-SUFFIENCY IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY as Merseyside has ran out of landfill sites, meaning our rubbish is being sent outside the region.

The Merseyside Environmental Advisory Service was asked by councils to find suitable locations for waste sites. They found 19 sites had the potential for treatment centres, processing plants and recycling sites, but said the “potential for new landfill sites” is “extremely constrained”.

THE GOVERNMENT HAS INTRODUCED GRIT RATIONING as stocks of salt reach critical levels. The move comes following a request from Merseyside officials to call upon a system called ‘Salt Cell’ where the areas most in need are prioritised.

Liverpool Council said it had taken a delivery of 113 tonnes and that 50 road workers had been diverted to clear ice and snow from “priority pedestrian areas”. Cllr Richard Kemp said, “The situation is getting more serious by the day because eventually we will run out of grit.”

FACEBOOK FLIRTING IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A THIRD of marriage breakdowns, according to a Liverpool lawyer.
