Witch house
A LIVERPOOL estate agent has swapped selling houses to become a witch living in caves a tourist attraction. Carla Calamity, whose real name is Carole Bohanan, beat 300 hopefuls to win the £50,000-a-year role as Wookey Witch, and will now teach witchcraft to visitors to Wookey Hole Caves, Somerset.

Trooper killed
A SOLDIER from Birkenhead is the latest Army casualty in Afghanistan. Trooper Philip Lawrence, 22, was killed during a blast while driving an armoured vehicle in Lashkar Gah district, Helmand. Described by his family as a “knight in shining armour”, he had been ensuring the security of an area cleared by British forces when he died. Trooper Lawrence, of the Light Dragoons, based in Norfolk, leaves a wife, Amy, and baby daughter Jessica.

Dial-a-drug
A DRUG smuggler from Liverpool has admitted running an international cocaine ring using his mobile phone while behind bars. Imprisoned at HMP Lindholme, near Doncaster, Liverpool Crown Court heard how George Moon, 62, arranged for parcels of pure cocaine to be smuggled into Britain and Ireland from South America. He pleaded guilty to four charges including conspiring to import Class A drugs, causing the smuggling of drugs into HMP Lindholme and causing the smuggling of mobile phone parts into the jail. The Serious Organised Crime Agency Director General described Moon as a "complacent career criminal”.

Wolves players arrested
Two Warrington Wolves rugby players have been arrested after brawl outside a Cheshire bar. Ben Harrison, 21, and Chris Bridge, 25, were held on suspicion of affray in the early hours of Monday, after they and team-mates were celebrating their team's win over Salford on Sunday. Two other men, aged 24 and 39, were also arrested; all four are bailed until 16 September.
