A LIVERPOOL nurse was last night struck off after going undercover for a BBC Panorama documentary to expose “appalling” standards at a hospital in Brighton.

Margaret Haywood, 58, of Everton, was said to be “devastated” by the decision of the Nursing and Midwifery Council who rejected arguments that her actions were in the public interest; instead finding that she breached the code of conduct and did not obtain consent to film “elderly patients in the last stages of their lives”.

THE Duke of Westminster has seen the value of his investment in Liverpool One slip by £165.3m during 2008 according to figures published yesterday. It means what was a £1bn project has now seen a total of £354m wiped off its value.

The Duke’s company, Grosvenor, remains confident about its long-term future.

THE mother of Helen McCourt is to speak at the parole hearing of the man who was convicted of murdering her.

Helen, 22, from Billinge, vanished in 1988 on her way home from work in Liverpool. Local pub landlord Ian Simms was convicted by overwhelming DNA evidence, but her body has never been found.
