“WE WON'T POLICE STUDENTS”
LECTURERS at John Moores University are to boycott new immigration rules ordering them to monitor international students.
Two professors have put their names to a 35-strong list of UK academics threatening to reject rules which they claim effectively order them to “police students”.
The move comes just days after JMU was caught up in terror raids by police.
BACK TO BUSINESS
FOUR bars and clubs will relaunch on Friday after having their licence to serve alcohol restored.
The licences for Circo, Raven and Babycream, in the Albert Dock, along with Korova in Fleet Street, lapsed after their operator, Docklands Bar Ltd, formerly Korova, fell into administration.
They have now been re-licensed on a temporary basis. All four have now been taken over by Leisure Management.
“INNOCENT” PETITION
A petition has been set up calling for the release of two Liverpool students arrested in raids on suspected terrorists last week.
A student calling himself Jamil raised the petition, saying that Janas Khan, 25, and Mohammad Ramzan, 25, attended business management lectures with him at Liverpool Hope University.
He said the pair were innocent and had been caught up in the raids because they had broken the terms of their visas.
THE POWER OF CASH
Liverpool co-owner George Gillett is on the brink of raising an estimated £272m from his 80 per cent interest in the Montreal Canadiens by selling them to pop star Celine Dion.
The Think Twice and Power of Love singer is one of the leading bidders hoping to snap up the National Hockey League team.
