DETECTIVES investigating the murder of 23-year-old Tyrone Gilbert, who was shot in Chorlton-on-Medlock in July, have today, arrested two people. Two 24-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and will remain in custody for questioning. Mr Gilbert was shot at the wake of his friend Ucal Chin who was killed in a drive-by shooting in June.
A PAIR of train graffiti artists from Macclesfield have been jailed for causing up to £13,000 damage to railway property. Thomas Dolan, 20, and Thomas Whittaker, 18, were tracked down by their distinctive graffiti ‘tags’. Manchester Crown Court found the pair guilty of a total of 13 counts of criminal damage, with another 20 to be considered, on trains, stations and railway property in Gatley, Bury, Buxton, Wigan, Macclesfield, Stockport and Longsight. Dolan has been jailed for 15 months and Whittaker for 12 months.
‘SATURATION ZONES’ could be introduced to Manchester city centre in order to combat noise and disorder. The council is considering the idea in which pubs, clubs and bars would need a license to prove their business would not have a negative effect. Coun Marc Ramsbottom said: “In Saturation Zones there is a presumption against granting any further licenses, or extensions to existing licenses.”
MIDDLESBOROUGH are set to sign Georgios Samaras for around £3m. The 22-year-old Greek international has been over-looked for a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's new look side. Samaras, cost City £5.5m in 2005, but will not travel to Bristol City for tonight’s Carling Cup tie.
