BODDINGTONS BREWERY could create up to 1,800 jobs if redevelopment plans are given the go-ahead. After over 227 years of beer production, the brewery buildings at Strangeways were demolished earlier this year. Now council leaders will discuss making the site into offices, houses, a hotel and shops. The famous Boddingtons’ chimney will stay intact.
THE B OF THE BANG Eastland’s landmark creators are being sued for £2m by Manchester Council because the controversial art structure is still unsafe. The 184ft creation, which was commissioned to mark the 2002 Commonwealth Games and cost £1.42m of taxpayers' money, is still in need of major work in order for it to meet health and safety standards. If the legal action is successful, the council will use the money to repair the sculpture which is currently fenced off.
THE POLICE have announced new Manchester tour dates after the group postponed the original October dates. Frontman Sting, was said to be suffering from a throat infection. They have now extended their tour to allow for the rescheduled Manchester dates. They will now play at the M.E.N Arena on Tuesday 17 June and Wednesday 18 June 2008.
MANCHESTER UNITED secured a 4-2 win against Dynamo Kiev last night, virtually sealing their place in the Champions League group stage. Rio Ferdinand opened up the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute. He said: “We planned to win this one and we did it. A good start was vital for us and we scored two quick goals.”
