A TODDLER has died in a tragic lorry accident on Newmarket Road, Ashton-under-Lyne. The 18-month-old girl died instantly when her pram was hit by a recycling lorry. The buggy fell into the road as the girl’s mother tried to catch hold of her four-year-old brother, who had let go of her hand. The HGV driver and the mother were taken to hospital suffering from shock.
A VICIOUS attack took place on Oxford Road in the early hours of today. A man was hit on the back of the head with a bottle and had a cigarette stubbed in his eye before being dragged along four streets to a subway under Mancunian Way and beaten. Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 3540.
AN EX-AMBULANCE crew member has caused uproar after admitting crews don’t have time to clean ambulances properly. The former Salford ambulance woman described how in her experience she did the best in the time given, but that it was not always enough time. Greater Manchester ambulance chiefs say their crews take cleaning very seriously.
SIR ALEX FERGUSON faces a possible fine after launching a verbal attack on referee Mark Clattenburg during the match against Bolton. The Reds’ boss was sent to the stands at half-time after confronting the ref. He told manutd.com: “Some referees don’t like the truth and so I had to spend the second half upstairs.” Mark Clattenburg has reported the manager to the FA but Ferguson was unapologetic at a press conference yesterday.
