Manchester 250: Thursday 8 November

Signed, sealed and stashed and a meal on a wheel

Published on November 8th 2007.

A POSTMAN has been jailed for dunping and hiding letters. David Millar, 31, from Northenden threw 700 letters in a river and stashed 3,278 packages in his home. He claims he was suffering from depression. Manchester magistrates court heard how he had only profited £10 from a greeting card he opened. However, district judge Wendy Lloyd said it would never be known how much he had actually stolen.

THE TRAFFORD CENTRE is reportedly planning to build a big wheel which people can dine on. If it goes ahead, the wheel will be 16ft smaller that the wheel in Exchange Square. There are already concerns that it could interfere with TV signals and the lights may be irritating for residents in the area. A planning application is due to be considered by Trafford's planning committee.

A CAMPAIGN is underway to clean up Castlefield. Launched by councillor Pat Karney, the aim is to get rid of litter and hoardings which are making the area an eyesore. Coun Karney wants the site next to the Jackson’s Wharf pub to be tidied up by developers, Hale Leisure.

A CONFIDENT Wayne Rooney, apparently didn’t enjoy the match against Dynamo Kyiv last night because it was too easy. Speaking to www.manutd.com about the 4-0 win, the 21-year-old Reds striker said: “It was like a training session, they came and showed no enthusiasm to play. It spoilt the game and I didn’t really enjoy playing in it. The main thing, though, was that we won the game.”

The hoardings next to Jacksons Wharf have now been taken down! Lets see what Hale Leisure decide to do with the site next. Thanks Coun Karney for raising the profile of the issue.
