Manchester 250: Thursday 4 October

Dumb mum drink drives and leaves on lines cause chaos

Published on October 4th 2007.

A MUM from Macclesfield drove to pick up her children from school while four-and-a-half-times over the drink-drive limit. A court also heard how Debbie Leonard, 36, swore at a lollipop man. It has been reported that the mum of three was asked to move her car due to it causing obstruction at the school grounds. Her defence lawyer argued that Leonard does not have a drug or alcohol problem.

A MAN has been charged with the murder of a man found dead on his doorstep in Hulme last month. David Brown, 24, was discovered stabbed to death outside the door to his flat on Chorlton Road. David Alder, 39, from Trafford, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

LEAVES on train lines will result in fewer trains in Greater Manchester this autumn. As of Monday 8 October, some services will be suspended on the steep route between Victoria, Oldham, Shaw and Rochdale. Northern Rail will be putting extra trains on vulnerable routes as part of the emergency autumn timetable.

UNITED FANS have been outraged over the auction of a plaque taken from the Munich air disaster wreckage. The plaque was recovered from the crash scene in 1958 by a man who was a member of the air accident team. Now the man's son has decided to cash in, selling the plaque for between £750-£1,000. The timing of this incident is extra poignant because this season is the fiftieth anniversary of the disaster.
