A MURDER INQUIRY is underway in Fallowfield after a decomposed body was discovered in a house on Avro Close. It is suspected the body of an 80-year-old woman could have been there since the beginning of the year. Police were called out after reports of a bad smell. A 49-year-old man from the local area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.
COMPLAINTS made against officers in Greater Manchester Police have increased. The new figures by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) suggest that complaints have risen by 17% compared to last year. In 2006 GMP received 1966 complaints about the conduct of police officers and other staff. Nationally, the figures show a 10% rise in complaints since last year.
MILLIONAIRE TYCOON Martin Ainscough has paid £250,000 to hire singers Katie Melua and Aled Jones for an exclusive concert in Manchester. He plans to have the pair perform at one of Manchester’s Revolution bars early next year to help raise funds for the Prince's Trust. The millionaire recently banked £225m by selling his crane hire company.
SUREE SUKHA is reportedly set to become the first Thai player to sign for an English Premiership club. Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson arrived in Bangkok today accompanied by Panthongtae Shinawatra, son of Thaksin Shinawatra, the owner of the club. It is believed the agreement will be sealed on Friday. A press conference will be held in which Eriksson is expected to sign the 25-year-old full back.
