POLICE are once again appealing for information on the murder of Jessie James - as we approach the first anniversary of his death. Jessie was shot three times as he cycled through a Moss Side park in September 2006. Detective Superintendent Shaun Donnellan, Senior Investigating Officer for the murder, said: “I am sure there are still people out there who have information.”
METROLINK lines to Bury are to reopen next Thursday after six weeks of disruptions. Nearly 40 miles of worn-out track have been replaced totaling a cost of around £100m. Michael Renshaw from Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive said: “Tram journeys on the Bury line will now be much smoother, quieter and more reliable.”
A MUSIC CENTRE has been opened on Newton Street for Manchester’s budding young musicians. Trafford College launched the £1.5m centre with the help of Peter Hook from Joy Division/ New Order and Mani from the Stone Roses and Primal Scream. Peter Hook dedicated the centre to the memory of Anthony Wilson. He said: “It's nice to see the council dignitaries all here who are now recognising how important music is to the city, and that's down to Tony.”
SVEN-GORAN Eriksson is confident his current City team are fully capable of taking him through to January’s transfer window. Despite having a distinct shortage of strikers, Eriksson is happy with the strength of his squad. He said: “We have to play the kind of football that we played in the first 10 or 15 minutes against Blackburn.”
