Manchester 250: Friday 13 July

Hello to City’s Bianchi and goodbye to Didsbury’s Co-op

Published on July 13th 2007.

THREE PEOPLE have been found dead in Fallowfield. The bodies are of two women, aged 35 and 18 and a boy of around 13. Police were called to the house on Thelwall Avenue following reports that a woman had been found dead inside.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "All three bodies had serious head injuries. All three of these deaths are being treated as suspicious and a multiple murder inquiry has been launched."

WITH SUPERCASINO plans on the backburner, council leader Sir Richard Leese has announced that the government will need to find another way of creating 3,000 in East Manchester. Ministers have now assured Manchester City Council that plans for the £265m Supercasino are still ‘on the table’.

ITALIAN PLAYER, Rolando Bianchi has joined City. The 25-year-old will join new manager Sven-Goran Eriksson’s squad in an £8.8m transfer from Reggina. Bianchi said: “Mr Eriksson called me and told me he wanted me at any cost. I hope one day I can return to Italy with a big club, but I am beginning this new adventure. I want to do well and show what I can do."

THE ‘TESCO EFFECT’ has hit Didsbury’s Co-op store on Fog Lane. The shop is about to close following a plummet in profits since a new Tesco store was opened in Burnage in 2005. A spokesperson for the Co-op would not speculate on the reasonings for the closure, however the general belief is that customers prefer to bulk-buy at the supermarket giant.
