ARMED ROBBERY CRACKDOWN: A Greater Manchester Police operation has resulted in 33 armed robbery offenders being convicted and sentenced to a total of 204 years. There has also been a 58 per cent reduction in the number of cash-in-transit attacks across the North West during 2010.

FACEBOOK DANGERS: A judge has warned parents about the dangers of Facebook after a 26-year-old paedophile posed as a 15-year-old boy and pestered a 14-year-old school girl. Robert Sumner, from Longsight, stalked the teenager online and threatened to rape her if she refused to meet him, Manchester Crown Court heard. Judge Iain Hamilton said the case highlighted the dangers of youngsters using social network sites. He sentenced Sumner to a three-year supervision order.

AL-QAEDA TERROR SUSPECTS HELD IN MANCHESTER: Seven international terror suspects have been moved to Strangeways this month. The group, who are being kept in a dedicated unit, includes alleged associates of Osama Bin Laden. A number face extradition to other countries in connection with terror offences.
