A SOLDIER stopped three masked men from stealing his car in Salford by chasing them down the street naked. L/Cpl Wayne O'Mahoney, from Charlestown, punched through the glass of his car as one of the thieves, who was armed with a knife, attempted to steal it. The serving soldier had been woken in the early hours of Saturday morning after three men broke into his house on Gerald Road.

A $10,000 REWARD is being offered in an appeal to find missing Manchester girl, Pearl Rose Gavaghan da Massa. The seven-year-old, who is thought to be in Toronto, was taken from Manchester without legal consent by her mother Helen Gavaghan in 2008. The incident followed a split from the girl’s father, Henry da Massa. The reward of over six thousand pounds is being offered by Canada's Missing Children's Society and Toronto Police.

A RUNNER from Manchester has completed a marathon inside a capsule of the London Eye. 34-year-old Noel Bresland ran the equivalent of the 26.2mile course on a treadmill in three-hours and 51minutes. He is attempting to run 223 marathons in 10 years to raise money for Children with Leukaemia and Bliss. He set himself the challenge after his nephew Ethan, who was born prematurely, died at the age of 223 days.

FC UNITED are planning to move to a new 5,000 capacity stadium in Moston. The club, founded in 2005, are hoping to build on The Ronald Johnson Playing Fields, close to Lightbowne Road providing a planning application is granted.

This week in 1868: Architect Alfred Waterhouse’s designs for Manchester’s new Town Hall were formally adopted by the City Council.
