DIDSBURY STABBING CHARGE: A 45-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a 28-year-old man was stabbed in the chest on Parrs Wood Road in Didsbury on Saturday night. The victim was taken to hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition.

FAKE MARRIAGE GANG JAILED: Three men and four women have been jailed at Manchester Crown Court for operating a sham marriage industry. The gang arranged 15 weddings in the North West for illegal immigrants who each paid £1,500 to ringleader Vladimir Murko, 37, so they could obtain National Insurance numbers and stay in the country. Murko was sentenced to 62 months, the other defendants were all sentenced to 16 months for assisting unlawful immigration and 12 months for bigamy.

TRUANCY LESSONS FOR HEAD TEACHERS: Head teachers in Manchester have been offered classes in how to keep records on parents who allow their children to truant from school. The records could be used as evidence against parents in court. 170 primary and secondary schools have been invited by the city council to attend the sessions in November.
