MASSIVE QUR’AN AT JOHN RYLANDS: One of the world's largest copies of the Qur'an has been digitised by the John Rylands Library, as it was too big and delicate to display. The library has created an online version of the religious book in short sessions to preserve it. The Qansuh al-Ghuri Qur'an was originally bought by John Rylands' wife Enriqueta in 1901, so that scholars around the world could study it.

CITY CENTRE RAPE CASE APPEAL: Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a woman was raped in Manchester last March. The 23-year-old woman reported the attack after waking up in the City Warehouse Apartments on Great Ancoats Street in the early hours. She had been on a night out at the Lakota bar on Deansgate Locks the night before. Click here to view the image.

CHESHIRE POLICE TO CUT JOBS: Cheshire Police Authority may cut 700 police jobs after being forced to make savings of £36.6m by March 2015. Details of the authority's draft budget have been published ahead of a finance committee meeting on 1 February. The authority said it is preparing for the ‘worst case scenario.’

ORIGINAL CORRIE ACTOR RETURNS: An original cast member of Coronation Street will return to the soap 43 years after his last appearance. Philip Lowrie played Dennis Tanner in the first episode and remained in the show for eight years. Lowrie will start filming in March and will be seen on screen from May.

Out of the window weather forecast: Looks like it could be summer out there, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
