PART of the tram that crashed into Coronation Street will be housed in Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry. The tram should be in place for MOSI’s official re-opening early next year, following a £7m refurbishment. Museum director Tony Hill said the museum was likely to receive the section that smashed into Rita’s shop. The stunt cost more than £1m to film.

FC UNITED fans have raised more than £1m towards the club’s new stadium in Newton Heath. The club’s community shares scheme, which gives fans a stake in the club, has only been running for three months. The final target is £1.5m, which will help the breakaway club to build the new 5,000 capacity stadium at Ten Acres Lane. The total cost of the ground is around £3.5m. A FIVE-WEEK-OLD baby from Heaton Chapel has contracted swine flu. Harvey Flanagan was twice turned away from Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport and given indigestion medication, but his condition was picked up by staff at Tameside General and he was transferred to a critical care unit at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

AT LEAST 27 successful applications for new supermarkets have been made by Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco in Greater Manchester in the past two years, according to research by BBC Manchester. The highest number of approvals were in Manchester with seven between November 2008 and November 2010.,/p>
