LOOK OUT FOR VAPOUR TRAILS in the sky as planes have started landing at airports in the North West. The ban was lifted by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) yesterday after planes were declared safe to fly through the volcanic ash. Planes have also started taking off from Manchester Airport, Liverpool John Lennon and Blackpool.
A 10,000-YEAR OLD BLOCK OF ARCTIC ICE has arrived in Cheshire from Greenland to feature in the Tatton Biennial. The two-tonne lump of ice is being stored in a specially-built glass case and will be kept frozen using solar power and pond water during the contemporary art event which runs from 8 May - 26 September 2010. Artist Neville Gabie journeyed to Greenland where he fished the iceberg out of a fjord and then transported it to the UK.
A BEER FESTIVAL will be taking place at the Albert Club in West Didsbury on Friday 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May. The sports and social club has recently undergone major refurbishment and the beer festival will mark the club's relaunch. A JUDGE HAS RECEIVED THANKS from a man who robbed his own mum. Judge David Swift sentenced drug addict Anthony Nicholson from Atherton, to 44 months in jail for the attack on his disabled mother. Nicholson shouted in court: “I'm disgusting, I know, I know. Thank you, your honour.”
