City news in 250 words: Wednesday 14 April

CRIME IN GREATER MANCHESTER is at its lowest level for 10 years, according to the latest police figures for the past 12 months. The results for the year from April 2009 to March 2010 show there have been 35,901 fewer victims of crime due to a 12.7 per cent reduction in crime across the region. Chief Constable Peter Fahy said: "We have been continuing to make improvements to the service we provide which is reflected in the figures.”

PETER KAY has added another five dates to his sell-out stand-up tour. He will now play a total of 35 nights at the MEN arena plus 60 nights at around Britain and in Dublin. The additional Manchester dates take place from October 11-15, 2011. The tour has sold more than 750,000 tickets, making Kay the fastest-selling and biggest-selling comedy act in British history. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Saturday, priced at £35.

CITY MIDFIELDER, MICHAEL JOHNSON, will not be charged over claims he head butted a United fan in a Manchester nightclub last December. The 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm to the alleged victim who was singing Manchester United songs with his friends in 42nd Street club. The Crown Prosecution Service said there was "insufficient evidence".

THE NEW MANCHESTER TOURIST INFO CENTRE will be at the corner of Portland Street and Parker Street from July. There will be no counter as such, but there will be smart tables and staff on hand to advise visitors.
