DAVID CAMERON BECOMES PRIME MINISTER: At 43-years-old, David Cameron is the youngest prime minister in almost 200 years. He will lead a government with five Liberal Democrats in the Cabinet- the country's first coalition since World War II. Nick Clegg will take the title of Deputy Prime Minister. Mr Cameron has vowed to set aside party differences with Mr Clegg and has urged doubting Lib Dem voters to "keep faith with us".
SIR RICHARD LEESE has put his name forward for re-election. The ex-leader of Manchester City Council, who temporarily stepped down last month due to family problems, is hoping to return to local politics. Candidates have until noon to put their names forward.
ALLEGED ROBBER CRUSHED BY BRICKS: A man, believed to have been breaking into a garage, was crushed after a tonne of bricks fell on him. The 27-year-old suffered a suspected ruptured spleen and abdominal injuries following the incident at Andy's Autos in Oldham. It is thought he had smashed his way through the outer skin of a wall and was knocking through the second skin when the 5ft-high pile of bricks above him fell down.
DETECTIVE ILLEGALLY USED GMP COMPUTER TO SNOOP: Det Sgt Alan Walker, 46, reportedly logged on to GMP’s system 49 times without permission to check on the whereabouts of a person to whom he had loaned money. He was charged with 12 offences under the Data Protection Act but the case against him has bee dropped after he accepted a police caution.
