MYSPACE CUTS JOBS: It was the most popular social networking site back in 2006, but the rise of Facebook has forced the website to cut its global workforce by half this week. The cuts follow a revamp of the site which included Facebook Connect – allowing Facebook members to log onto Myspace with their Facebook identity. The change was widely viewed as an acknowledgement of Facebook's domination of the social networking industry.

DID MISSING MAN ‘GET LOST’? A man who went missing after his work Christmas party may have simply lost his way home, according to Greater Manchester Police. Nathan Tomlinson, 21, of Stockport, was last seen leaving the Mitre Hotel, near Manchester Cathedral, on 17 December. His last-known movements were viewed on CCTV as he crossed the River Irwell towards Salford. Det Ch Insp Peter Giles said all lines of inquiry had now been exhausted.

BECKHAM WON’T FACE UNITED: Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has said that should David Beckham join Tottenham this week, he would not face former club Manchester United. He said: "Manchester United this Sunday would be a non-starter even if he does sign.” Beckham is currently busy training with Spurs.

ILLEGAL WORKERS AT TAKEAWAYS: Four illegal workers have been arrested at Zain's Krispy Chicken on Wilmslow Road, Rusholme and Kakon Indian Takeaway on Ashton Lane in Sale. The Border Agency said the men had no right to be employed in the UK and their employers may be liable for a fine of up to £10,000 per worker.

Out of the window weather forecast: The days appear to be getting darker. We’ll soon need night vision goggles at work.
