CUTS FOR POLICE STAFF: Up to 28,000 jobs will be cut according to the Association of Chief Police Officers Police. Peter Fahy, Greater Manchester’s Chief Constable, confirmed the cuts, which will mean around a 12 per cent job loss. This comes following news last Tuesday that by 2015 police funding will be cut by 20 per cent after a pay freeze that has lasted for two years.

MANCHESTER CENOTAPH TO BE SCRAPPED: Plans for a second city centre tram line have caused outrage as the proposed build will mean moving Manchester’s 87-year-old Cenotaph. The historic monument, built in honour of the soldiers who died in WWI, currently resides in St Peter’s Square. According to plans, the Cenotaph will be moved to a nearby location, somewhere between the town hall and Peace Gardens.

MANCHESTER RAPE VICTIMS will receive extra support thanks to new funding provided by The Ministry of Justice. The Ministry has been given £600,000 to spread between four centres in the UK, including Trafford Rape Crisis centre in Sale. The centre, which opened in July 2010, helps all sexual abuse victims. One of the centres’ doctors, Kate Cook said “We are incredibly excited to be receiving some funding from the government. It is wonderful they have announced it on international women's day.”

MANCHESTER NAMED ELBOW’S INSPIRATION: Elbow lead singer, Guy Garvey has named Manchester as the band’s inspiration. Garvey also stated that Manchester will always be home to the band at the release of new album ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’

Out the window weather forecast: Bright but mild with a slight breeze. T-shirt and coat weather.
