CHILEAN MINERS TO VISIT UNITED: The Chilean miners who spent two months trapped underground are to visit the UK to watch a Manchester United match as guests at Old Trafford. Most of the 33 men rescued in October are expected to attend Old Trafford later this month. It has not yet been announced which fixture they will attend but United's next home game in the Premier League is against title rivals Arsenal.
999 RAPPER CHARGED: Police have charged a man for making thousands of nuisance 999 calls over an 18-month period. Wayne Davis, 43, of Upper Chorlton Road, Old Trafford, is due before Trafford magistrates on 16 December. Davis would rap, sing and chant down the phone to operators at Greater Manchester. ANIMAL PARK PROTEST: Campaigners have been protesting in a bid to save Animal World and Butterfly House in Moss Bank Park, Bolton. The park is due to be closed with the loss of three jobs, as the council struggles with a £1.7m budget cut. Union members believe the free facility is an extremely valuable tourist attraction and the closure would be a great loss for the borough.
STRETFORD GIRL DIES IN HOTEL FALL: Jennifer Smith, 22, from Stretford, fell four floors at a hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal on 4 December. She had been in the Himalayan country on a 10-week volunteer programme called Platform2. A spokeswoman for the programme said police had investigated and classed it as an accidental death.
