CORRIE ACTRESS CAUGHT DRINK DRIVING: Susan Cleaver, 46, who plays Eileen Grimshaw has been charged with drink-driving after she was allegedly caught driving her Land Rover at almost twice the legal limit. The actress was stopped and breathalysed by police in Northenden in the early hours of yesterday. She was then taken to West Didsbury Police Station for a second test and later released. She will appear at Manchester City Magistrates' Court on April 14.

GREATER MANCHESTER AUTHORITIES today agreed to submit a scheme to the Government for the creation of a new authority – the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Under the new arrangements, a joint committee would co-ordinate transport, regeneration and economic development. The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities has requested that the new authority should be created as from 1 April, 2011.
THE WORLD’S BIGGEST PLANE is to fly into Manchester Airport every day from September. Emirates Airline has announced that Manchester will become the first regional airport in the world to land the A380 double-decker aircraft which seats 517 passengers. The airport has spend almost £10m upgrading the airfield and terminal to accommodate the jumbo jet. Return fares will start from £539.
