FLATS ON FIRE: Last night fire crews tackled a blaze at a block of flats in Old Chapel- the site of the former Withington Hospital on Nell Lane, Didsbury. The flats were unoccupied following two gas explosions at the building in December, which caused extensive damage.

CANCER QUERY OVER AIRPORT SCANNER: A US radiology scientist is concerned that not enough research has gone into the amount of radiation airport body scanners deliver to parts of the body. Dr David Brenner believes that the dose delivered to the skin is twenty times higher than previously thought and is urging researchers to carry out more tests on the device.

CHILD ABDUCTION ATTEMPT IN STOCKPORT: A man tried to abduct a 7-year-old girl as she walked along Springwood Crescent in Romiley on Saturday. The man grabbed her from behind then turned her towards a parked van and asked her if she wanted to see some puppies. She noticed another man was sitting in the van and she ran away. Stockport CID has urged parents and children to be vigilant.

GOOGLE STREET VIEW SHOWS CHILD NAKED: A photo of a three-year-old boy playing naked in his gran’s garden in Walkden, has been published by Google. Google’s camera car, will have taken the snap whilst photographing every road in Britain for the search engine’s Street View service. But whilst Google ensure to blur out car registrations, the image of the child was left uncensored. Google has now apologised to the family and blurred the image.
