WE ALL WANT TO VOTE: According to Manchester City Council, an unprecedented number of people have registered to vote in the past month. 6,816 people were added to the electoral register in Manchester in the month before the April 20 deadline. The general and local elections will be held on Thursday 6 May.

COUNCILLOR UPSET BY SEX CLUB HOAX: Police are investigating a false allegation that Councillor Roger Hayes, the leader of the Liberal Democrats in Bolton, is running his own sex club. A hoax email started the rumour which included that Mr Hayes was hosting pole dancing and other 'personal requests' from his home. A dumbfounded Mr Hayes said: "It is unbelievable - the ceilings are too low for a start."

CONMEN IN SALFORD have made a number of attempts to get inside people's homes, police have warned. On Monday 26 April, two offenders claiming to be from the water board tricked their way into the homes of three pensioners and stole cash. The incidents took place in Pendlebury, Little Hulton and Eccles.

MUSIC SALES are up for the first time in six years. Music industry body, the British Phonographic Institute (BPI), has reported that revenue increased by 1.4 per cent, bringing the 2009 total income to £928.8m. A spokesman for the BPI said: “Digital sales now account for a fifth of all music sales, but you can see from strong releases by Robbie Williams and Lady Gaga that the CD is still the bedrock of the industry.

Bit of advice for people. If someone comes to your door claiming to be from the water board then slam the door in their face, because the Water Board became North West Water, then United Utilities years ago.
