NEW HOSPITAL GETS APPROVAL:  Plans have been approved to build a new hospital in the centre of Altrincham. The hospital will be built on Railway Street in the town centre and will replace the existing Altrincham General Hospital. Ron Calvert, chief executive of Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust, said: "We are delighted that NHS North West has now approved the business case.”

ARMED ROBBERY AT THE DIDSBURY PUB: Two men armed with knives walked into The Didsbury pub at 12.15am today, threatening staff before escaping with a substantial amount of money and a Rolex watch. Det Con Andrew Bromley, from West Didsbury CID said: “The men used threatening behaviour to get what they wanted and the staff members have been left terrified.”

BOOK OF CONDOLENCE FOR NORWAY: Manchester residents can sign a book of condolence dedicated to victims of Friday’s terror attack in Norway. Manchester's Norwegian consulate has opened the book at Manchester Town Hall following the attack, in which nearly 100 people were killed in Oslo and on the nearby island of Utoeya. The book can be signed at the main reception desk until 4pm on Friday July 29.

ROBBERY AT FUEL CAFE ON WILMSLOW ROAD: Two men kicked at the door of Fuel cafe-bar on Wilmslow Road on Monday at 10.45am, despite it being closed. They stole cash after threatening members of staff. Detective Constable Chris Fox said: "This is a busy shopping street so I am confident there are witnesses out there who we need to hear from."

Fact of the day: This week in 2002, the opening ceremony of the 17th Commonwealth Games was held at the City of Manchester Stadium.
