EXPAT LIBYAN’S BROTHER KILLED IN PROTESTS: A Manchester Libyan expat was told last night, that his brother was among the number of protestors that have so far been killed by security forces in Libya. There was also a large demonstration by Manchester’s Libyan community, the largest in the UK, calling for the end of Gaddafi’s regime, outside the BBC on Oxford Road.

CHARITY COLLECTORS TO BE RESTRICTED IN CITY CENTRE: Manchester has become the largest city to restrict the activities of charity collectors. They will be restricted to four sites and only able to collect on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9am - 6pm. Although effective for the charities, the public has shown an aversion to them leading to the nickname Chuggers - an abbreviation of charity muggers.

MANCHESTER IS A BETTER THAN LONDON, NY AND ROME: A new global survey has revealed that Manchester is a better place to live than the capital. Coming 42nd out of 140 major cities, Manchester is 11 places higher than London. The feather in Manchester’s cap has proven to be culture and environment, citing the Commonwealth Games legacy and a vibrant individual culture as key factors. Click here for more.

LOWRY STATUE TO BE INSTALLED IN A PUB: A new life-sized statue of LS Lowry is set to become the latest local at Sam’s Chop House, marking the 35th anniversary of the artist’s death. Lowry was a regular whilst he was working as a rent collector. The statue was commissioned by pub owner Roger Ward.
