FC UNITED NEEDS HELP: Manchester United fans’ breakaway club is looking for investors in its future. FC United wants to build a new 5,000-seater stadium near Newton Heath - the first home of Manchester United - at a cost of £3.5m. A community shares scheme has been launched today, aiming to raise £1.5m. Individuals aged over 16 and businesses will be able to buy shares costing from £200 to £20,000.

CRICKETER’S GOT ATTITUDE: Lancashire paceman James Anderson has become the first cricketer to appear naked in Britain's biggest-selling gay magazine, Attitude. Anderson, 28, who posed nude for October's issue of the magazine, insisted that there was no homophobia in the game and that gay players should feel comfortable coming out.

BEARD EXHIBITION: A new online exhibition is showcasing the best facial hair in Manchester. Over 100 men have contributed pictures of their hairy faces to beardsofmanchester.comOrganisers are aiming to make a charity calendar using the best 12 entrants. Applicants can have anything from bushy beards to goatees or stylish sideburns. Send your pictures to info@beardsofmanchester.com until Friday.

EXTRA PATROLS IN WYTHENSHAWE: Extra police patrols are being carried out on the streets of south Manchester after a 30-year-old man was shot dead on Sunday. Supt Hughie Hardiman, from Greater Manchester Police's South Manchester Division, said: "I can understand the community will be frightened and worried but there is nothing to suggest this was a random attack and they can be reassured that we are doing everything possible to catch those responsible.”

Out of the window weather forecast: The gardener is sprint mowing the lawn in Hardman Square, Spinningfields, which suggests he’s worried it may rain on his parade at any moment.
