METROLINK FARES are set to rise for the first time in two years. This is ‘to meet increasing costs and contribute towards the improvements to and expansion of the network’. Rises for child daily fares will be 10p, adult peak return fares by 20p. The cost of season tickets will increase by between 4.8% and 7.3%, depending on ticket type and journey.

THE BURGLAR, Tommy Rouse from Bury, who posed for a Greater Manchester Police Christmas Card campaign telling offenders to avoid jail this Christmas has been nicked. The campaign against repeat offenders used an image of Rouse. Now Rouse has broken bail conditions by testing by testing positive for drugs. His offences include over the last two decades, burglary, car theft, assault and drug offences, he has spent nine Christmases in prison.

NORTHERN RAIL transport workers are to strike on 27 and 28 December in a dispute over bank holiday pay. The Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union wants conductors to get double pay for working on Bank Holidays and said up to 1000 workers would take part. Northern Rail management says several years ago conductors had given up double pay for increased salaries, extra leave and other benefits.

A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ERECTED at Westhoughton for the 344 men and boys who died in one of the worst pit disasters in the UK, and the worst in Lancashire. The explosion occurred on 21 December 1910 at the Hulton Colliery. The youngest victims were 13, and the eldest 61.

Those Metrolink Corpo's are cheeky so and so's. I'd seriously think about other forms of transport in view of this fare rise, if it wasnt the quickest form of transport from Alti to Town and back !!!

Price rise for what, surely if you make profit you improve the services through this profit, not think hey lets paint everything yellow, buy some new trams with a serious design flaw create the mediacity stop which opens once in a bluemoon and spend a fortune on changing the GMex stop to Deansgate-castlefield stop and then expect the passengers to pay for this?

I agree with Metro-rant, if there was a quicker route from ALTI-MCR then I would be on it like a flash.
