M60 MOTORWAY BRIDGE DEATH: A man in his 60s has died after falling from a footbridge near junction 17 of the M60, between Whitefield and Prestwich. He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he later died. The incident caused major tailbacks on the anti-clockwise side of the M60, which was partially closed for two hours. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
BLOGGING GETS BOYS WRITING: A Greater Manchester primary school believes blogging is the key to getting boys interested in writing. Pupils at Heathfield County Primary in Bolton regularly write blogs which are published on the school's website. Blogging has now been officially introduced to the curriculum with even five-year-olds being encouraged to write about their lessons.
SHAM MARRIAGE COUPLE WANTED: A Nigerian couple are wanted by Greater Manchester Police after being convicted of fraud offences. Aloysius Isinwa and Lawretta Megwalu were due to appear for sentence on 10 December 2010, but did not attend court. Warrants have been issued for their arrest. The couple is believed to have numerous acquaintances in Nigerian communities across the UK and police are now seeking the public’s help in tracing them.
NEW DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S SERVICES: Mike Livingstone will take over as Director of Children's Services at Manchester City Council. He will take up his post when the current Director, Pauline Newman, retires at the end of March. Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive, Manchester City Council, said: "Mike has a strong record of senior leadership and service improvement."
