SILKS lap-dancing club in the city centre has been closed down after a fight broke out inside. The council will review the Lloyd Street club’s licence to decide whether it can re-open. The club will have to remain closed for 28 days in the meantime. Chief Insp Chris Hill said: “We work hard to maintain strong working relationships with the pubs, bars and clubs in the city and we simply cannot tolerate incidents of public nuisance and disorder that put people’s safety in jeopardy.”

GREATER MANCHESTER councils will lose £341m of government funding and 7,000 jobs over the next two years. Manchester will lose the most - £102m – and Stockport will lose the least – £16.5m. Councillor Bernard Priest, Manchester’s executive member for finance, said: “This is very bad news for Manchester. We have a commitment that we will not make any compulsory redundancies and we are working very hard to honour that. But it will be very difficult.”

TWO MENhave died at the Royal Oldham Hospital after contracting swine flu. NHS Oldham said the patients also had underlying illnesses but swine flu was a factor. Alan Higgins, director of public health for Oldham, would not release any other information about the patients.

MANCHESTER UNITED beat Arsenal 1-0 at Old Trafford to go top of the Barclays Premier League. A first-half strike from Ji-Sung Park was enough to beat the Gunners, although Wayne Rooney missed a second half penalty. Arsenal are now joint second in the table with Manchester City.

Out of the window weather forecast: We can see lots of hats and scarves, and a pair of mustard slacks. Unacceptable in any weather.
