City news in 250 words: Tuesday 12 April

PENNINE ACUTE TRUST have apologised after Channel Four’s Dispatches programme, which aired last night revealed “unacceptable behaviour” and an “uncaring and unsympathetic attitude” from some members of staff. The programme, which was filmed at Royal Oldham Hospital between December 2010 and March this year, showed examples of staff raising their voices or ignoring patients.

A TEENAGE MOTHERM.b< who was confined to an asylum and forced to give her son away after giving birth in 1953, has launched a search to find him. Diane Roberts lost contact with her family after leaving the asylum but after the remains of a woman, thought to be Roberts were recently found in Manchester, she was able to contact surviving family members and launch the search for her son.

A HOSPITAL RADIOGRAPHER has called for an opt-out policy for Manchester Airport’s controversial ‘naked’ body scanners. After initially refusing the scan, Anthony Hall was told he had to be scanned if he wanted to go on to board his flight. Hall believes that as any amount of x-ray radiation carries some risk, passengers should be able to choose a full body pat-down, instead of a scan.

CARLOS TEVEZ looks set to miss Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester United on 16 April after sustaining a hamstring injury during last night’s defeat to Liverpool. Playing without their top goal scorer will obviously harm City’s chances but with Wayne Rooney already suspended from the tie neither side will be at full strength.

This week in 1852: The Manchester Guardian reported on the town’s Knott Mill Fair as a collection of monstrosities, absurdities and nastiness.
