WANT TO KNOW CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR AREA? New online crime maps for England and Wales have been launched, allowing users to see which offences have been reported in their local streets. Users enter a street name or postcode to access crime maps. The website, www.police.uk, was launched at midnight and cost £300,000 to develop.

RINGS STOLEN FROM FINGERS: A man who went out to get fresh air after suffering an anaphylactic shock was targeted by robbers who stole rings from his fingers. The incident happened at 1am on Monday 24 January in Ashton-in-Makerfield. Police Constable Kathryn Allen said: "To steal rings from a man's fingers is an appalling act and if anyone knows these lowlife thieves, please call the police."

ATTACK NEAR PICACADILLY STATION: A man has been hospitalised after being attacked near Piccadilly train station last Saturday at 3.45am. The 23-year-old man was making his way home from a night out when he saw three men kicking bins outside the Abode Hotel. The man questioned the trio about what they were doing, but was punched and kicked to the floor. His attackers then ran off towards Dale Street.

WANDERERS SIGN CHELSEA’S STURRIDGE: The 21-year-old was initially offered to Liverpool as part of Chelsea's bid to sign Reds striker Fernando Torres, but has now been confirmed as on loan to Bolton Wanderers until the end of the season. Bolton manager Owen Coyle described Sturridge as "a terrific young talent and one of the most exciting strikers in the country."

Out of the window weather forecast: Still cold, still grey, but with a bit of damp thrown in today for good measure.
