‘DROWNED’ MAN SHOPPING? A man who was believed to have drowned last year has, according to his friends, been spotted in Manchester. Australian Salim Nakhuda was visiting family in Bolton, when he disappeared in October 2009. Weeks later, police saw a man thought to be the 27-year-old disappear under the surface of the River Ribble. Police have now renewed their appeal to trace him after a reported a sighting of him shopping in Manchester Arndale.
HOUSE OF FRASER STAFF MEMBER FACES JAIL: Adrian Shaw, who worked for Aquascutum in the Manchester department store, repeatedly stabbed manager Tony Barnes on the shop floor after a row. Barnes, 40, suffered wounds to his head, neck, back and chest in the incident in May. Shaw, 20, faces prison after pleading guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
SEX ASSAULTS IN FALLOWFIELD: Ten women have been assaulted by two attackers in the space of a month in the Fallowfield, Oxford Road and Rusholme areas of Manchester. The assaults in Oxford Road and Rusholme have all been carried out against schoolgirls and women between the dates of September 1 and 30. The Fallowfield attacker last struck on September 25 when he pushed his victim into a car in Amhurst Road and raped her.
COMMONWEALTH GAMES WIN FOR GRADUATE: A graduate from The University of Manchester has won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. Mike Rock, who graduated from the University in the summer, finished second in the men’s 200m Butterfly final.
