ALCOHOL RESTRICTIONS will be put in place for this weekend’s football match between Manchester United and Liverpool. As well as the usual police presence, Greater Manchester Police has been granted an order at Trafford Magistrates' Court preventing alcohol sales in a designated area covering a number of premises around Old Trafford. Chief Superintendent Mark Roberts said: "A lot of families with young children come to watch the football, and any drunken behaviour that causes these genuine fans grief simply will not be tolerated.”

FALLOWFIELD ATTACKERS E-FIT: Images have been released of two men suspected of attacking a 69-year-old ex-serviceman in Fallowfield in November. Anthony O'Brien was wearing his Royal Air Force jacket and a poppy when two men shouted abuse at him in Sherwood Street, before punching and headbutting him. Police are appealing to anyone who may recognise the faces depicted in the E-fits. To view them, click here.

JOGGER DIES IN ACCIDENT BLACKSPOT: Mark Abbott, 31, from Swinton suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car at the scene near the junction with the M60 at Worsley, Salford. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old driver of the car involved was unharmed.

HARPURHEY GETS A PIECE OF PARIS: A chimney in Harpurhey has been illuminated with blue lights and dubbed the H’Eiffel Tower. Councillors have now invited the mayor of Paris to an official opening of the tower and are proposing a friendship agreement with the French capital, which could see the two destinations officially twinned.

Out of the window weather forecast: More snow on the way apparently. It’s getting boring now.
