HOSPITAL TO BE CONVERTED TO FLATS: St Anne's Hospital in Bowdon, which was a specialist unit for patients with tuberculosis, has been closed since 2004 and is being sold off by NHS bosses in Greater Manchester to fund the new Altrincham General Hospital nearby. The PJ Livesey Group will be buying the Victorian hospital, restoring its buildings and converting them to flats.

BOY KICKED OUT OF HOME IN AGE DISPUTE: An Iraqi student has been asked to leave a children's home in eight days after being judged to be an adult. Rabar Hamad, who says he is 16 years old, is an orphan and arrived in Wigan two years ago. Two age assessments by social workers judged him to be older than 18, but an independent tribunal doctor judged him to be aged between 13 and 16.

BOLTON BIN BLAZE: A family of eight had to be rescued from their home in Campbell Court, Farnworth after a flaming bin was pushed up to their door. The fire is one of four deliberate wheelie bin arson attacks in the area since May. One of the blazes destroyed a house at Cawdor Street in Farnworth.

CEMETERY GETS GREEN FLAG: Middleton (Boarshaw) Cemetery in Rochdale has received a Green Flag Award. The prize recognises the best parks and green spaces in the country. The cemetery is one of eight spaces in the town to win the prize and is now one of 96 spaces in Greater Manchester to receive the award in 2010.

Out of the window weather forecast: Looking outside has prompted my decision to send plans to the government for a nationwide umbrella and an artificial sun.
