OPERATION TREACLE: Police in Salford have teamed up Trading Standards to target those who cause harmful pranks during the busy Halloween and Bonfire period. Police will carry out regular patrols in hotspot areas and Trading Standards will carry out test purchases at off-licenses to stop underage drinking and prevent the sale of fireworks to under 18s. FIREWORK INJURIES ALREADY: A 20-year-old woman required surgery to her thumb after a firework left in the hallway of her house went off in her hand. The incident happened at a house party on Sunday 24 October on Kingslea Road, Withington. In another incident, a four-year-old girl was injured by a firework thrown into a back garden in Stockport on Monday 25 October. The girl was playing with her sister in the back garden of their home on Knaresborough Close, North Reddish.

BBC INTRODUCING IN MANCHESTER: Singer songwriter Maria Jordan will be playing a show for a specially invited audience of 150 in Salford on November 4. WORKERS FACING REDUNDANCY at BAE Systems in Cheshire, have been reassured by the Prime Minister that they will get help to find jobs.
