VOLCANIC ASH CASH: Manchester Airport has reported that the disruption caused as a result of ash from the Icelandic volcano has cost at least £10m- and it could rise if the cloud returns. More than 3,000 flights at the airport have been affected in recent months.

BOGUS CALLER IN CHORLTON: A man targeted a near blind woman at her home last week. The 82-year-old woman, who lives in a ground floor flat at Stevens Court on Egerton Road South, heard a knock at her window. She asked who it was and a man replied 'It's about the water'. When he left a short time later a neighbour went to check on the woman and found her purse had been stolen.

PETER HOOK GETS FREEDOM OF THE CITY, only it isn't his home city of Salford nor neighbouring city Manchester. The Joy Division and New Order musician has received the accolade from the French city of Clermont-Ferrand, which is celebrating the 44th anniversary of being twinned with Salford. Mayor Serge Godard presented Hooky with the 'honour medal' describing him as 'the hero of Salford'.

ID CARD SCRAPPAGE: The Home Office is to reveal later how it will abolish the national identity card programme. None of the 15,000 people who have voluntarily taken out ID cards since the roll out in Manchester in late 2009, will be refunded the £30 fee. The cards that are already in circulation will remain legal until Parliament has passed legislation to abolish them and the register.

Out of the window weather forecast: It's sunny. Blink. It's rainy.
