JEWISH ‘ERUV’ ZONE APPLICATION: Jewish people in Bury have submitted a planning application to create an ‘eruv’ zone in the Philips Park area of Whitefield. For Torah-observing Jews, Sabbath day restrictions include pushing prams and wheelchairs outside of homes, private gardens and community areas. The square mile ‘eruv’, which is a boundary recognised by Jewish law, will be the first outside London.

POLICE CLEARED OVER TODDLER DEATH: Helen Caudwell, 42, was jailed for life for murdering three-year-old Bethany Kennerley last October. The Independent Police Complaints Commission investigated how calls made to police about concerns for Ms Caudwell's behaviour were handled. IPCC Commissioner Naseem Malik said: "It is clear there was nothing Greater Manchester Police could have done to either predict or prevent the tragic outcome."

SHOULD PAEDOPHILES HAVE PARENTAL RIGHTS? The ex-wife of a convicted paedophile has called for child sex offenders to be stripped of their parental rights. The mother-of-two from Salford, whose former husband is currently serving a 10-year sentence for inciting two strangers to rape young children, told the BBC: "He has been put on the sex offenders' register, but he can still have an input into my children’s life.” The Ministry of Justice said they would not comment on individual cases.

WORLD’S FASTEST TEXTER IN SALFORD: Melissa Thompson claims she texted 'The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human’ in 25.94 seconds. Guinness World Records has now been notified.

Out of the window weather forecast: The law of averages says the forthcoming Bank Holiday should be a scorcher. In other words, today’s another grey day.
