EX-MANCHESTER CITY player Lee Crooks, who made 73 appearances for the Blues between 1994 and 2001, is to go on his first tour of duty next year in Afghanistan. Crooks joined the RAF in 2009 as a gunner. Talking about how life as a footballer will help him in the RAF he said: "Both roles are about working as a team, being there for your team-mates and moving forward as a team."

THREE LEADING local arts institutions are joining forces to revive Leonard Bernstein’s musical Wonderful Town. Braham Murray of Manchester’s Royal Exchange theatre will direct, the Halle orchestra will perform the music with the Lowry Theatre providing the venue. The show will run from March 31 to April 14, 2012 starring Connie Fisher, who won BBC 1’s How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

SIXTY JOBS are expected to be made redundant at the Christie Cancer Hospital with the posts being phased out by 2015. Bosses are hoping that the losses can be achieved by staff retiring or moving to jobs elsewhere. A further 150 roles are expected to move to US private medical care giant HCA International, which signed a partnership deal with Christie last year.

GREATER MANCHESTER Police have today released images of their most wanted. Fourteen images of people have been released, wanted for various offences including assault, fraud and recall to prison. Police ask you to call them on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 if you have any information.

Out the window weather forecast: Getting warmer and brighter throughout the day. Sunglasses at the ready.
