LEVENSHULME POP VIDEO: South Manchester piano-pop four piece, Sophie’s Pigeons, have shot their first video in Levenshulme. The band said they ‘belong to Levenshulme, so it's only right that we shot it there.’ They are about to release their debut mini album Names and Pictures. See the video here.

HANDS-FREE BROLLY FROM BOLTON: A Bolton taxi driver has designed a hands-free umbrella. Ibrar Ahmed, 27, designed a strap that fits on to any handbag to keep the brolly upright, after seeing a woman struggling to carry her shopping and trying to hold an umbrella. He now hopes to patent the design and branch out nationwide.

DIRTY MERSEY: The River Mersey has been voted the dirtiest river in the North in an online poll. Thousands of people voted for the river, which runs from Stockport to Liverpool, in the poll put together by the RSPB, WWF and the Angling Trust. More than £1bn has been spent cleaning the river in the last 25 years.

WAS DRINK-DRIVE POLICEMAN SPIKED? A Greater Manchester police officer who admitted drink-driving has avoided a ban after a barman said he spiked his drinks. PC Myles Hughes, 34, said his drinks had been laced with alcohol in the Flower Pot Inn on Congleton Road, Macclesfield. Chairman of the bench Barbara Shaw said: “We do find that you were unknowingly supplied with lager tops instead of the shandy you asked for.” Hughes was given six points and ordered to pay a £475 fine and £620 court costs.
