CHETHAM'S SCHOOL OF MUSIC is having a makeover. Work has started on the £36m extension to the school. Planning began in 2005 for the extension, which will be built alongside the existing 600-year-old building. The magic of Chets has truly ignited a major regeneration effort by all.” The new building will open in 2012.

It's getting a nasty place to live, this Manchester. I got attacked by 3 random scrotes in the street last night.

John are you ok? Tell us more?

I was walking along Whitworth Street about 9.15 and 3 random scrotes ran up from behind and started laying into me. I think they mistook me for someone else... Happily the bouncer from O'Shea's and a passing taxi driver came to my aid, and I got away with nothing worse than broken specs, a black eye and a couple of bruises.

Full marks to PC Darren who arrived very quickly and managed to grab two of the three.

Maybe we should have a vote on bringing back birching? Glad to hear you're ok given the circumstances.

Bastards. Fair play to the cops though. It's awful to hear that as the area around the Gay Village has been getting a lot safer over the past year or so (although that's probably of little comfort to you John). Glad to hear you're OK.
