City news in 250 words: Thursday 11 March

GMP attacked and attack back, Beckham's scarf and will we get the biggest Tesco ever?

City news in 250 words: Thursday 11 March

GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE (GMP) has been ridiculed after it failed a woman murdered by her ex-boyfriend. At the same time a report has graded it as one of the worst in the country. The force was guilty of 'systematic failures' in its care of Clare Wood. Meanwhile GMP has been ranked alongside Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire as the lowest-performing of 43 forces.

CURIOUSLY GIVEN THE ABOVE STORY GMP released its own press release yesterday which stated, that the force, 'has continued to cut crime and improve public confidence according to the latest figures released from the first Police Report Card. Crime reduced by 13 per cent in figures for April 2009 to the end of February 2010 and three out of four people have confidence in their local police.' How odd.

LANCASHIRE County Cricket Club is marching on Trafford Town Hall at 6pm today for the 6.30pm planning meeting which will decide the future of the area. Trafford Council will make a decision on whether to approve the Old Trafford Partnership’s planning application to redevelop the cricket ground and area – including a 140,000 sq ft Tesco. There will be placard waving protesters too.

DAVID BECKHAM briefly appeared at Old Trafford last night as his team AC Milan were stuffed by Manchester United 4-0 (7-2 on aggregate). He also donned the green and gold scarf of the anti-Glazer campaign to rapturous cheers – fans want to oust the American owners of the club who they feel are profiteering from United.

Have to come back on to Mancon to air my views as the MEN refuses to post my comments...

All I said was the recent police bashing that has come from the paper is a little transparent (pre-election time) given that the Trinity Mirror Group are supported by conservative investors. If the MEN can't post all comments that are not crude or offensive then it clearly shows it's self to be a tool of propaganda.
All the stories point towards labour bashing and local authority bashing and the comments are filtered to show the sort that lean towards this too.. I don't really like labour, but I still have a point of view. Phew, that’s better I’ll calm down now…

I'm really disapointed in what the MEN has become to be honest. The journalism has taken a nose dive and there seems to be only about 4 of them who seem intent on some left wing crusade. Those 'opinion' pieces are embarassing. The thing will be a once a week paper before we know it. Never any need for it to come this, it must be terribly run. However having experience of trying to put ads in and having to literally chase them to give them money, I've a feeling it's not just the journalists who are not that great.

Cas It's been sold and the transfer takes place the week after next so you don't expect any enthusiasm. But on the content are you sure its not Blair lite, Cameroonism.
