CHURCH BELL STOLEN: A cast-iron bell has been stolen from St Bride's Church in Blair Street, Old Trafford. The Reverend Phil Rawlings said he was woken by the bell ringing three times on Wednesday morning. He went to investigate, but the bell, which weighs one tonne and the thieves, had disappeared.

PAEDOPHILE BRANDED EVERY PARENT’S NIGHTMARE, JAILED: Gareth Hulme, 25, admitted raping a 10 year-old boy and 22 other charges relating to child sex offences. Judge Anthony Gee QC at Manchester Crown Court said: "You are only 25 and it seems likely to me you will remain a real danger to others for many years to come.” He must now serve a minimum of seven years in prison.

HARRY POTTER STAR’S DAD CHARGED: The father and brother of actress, Afshan Azad, 22, who starred in the Harry Potter films, have been charged with threatening to kill her. Azad has appeared in four of the movies as Padma Patil. She was allegedly attacked at her home in Longsight, Manchester, on May 21 this year.

LOWRY HOMES SHOCKED AFTER GIRL IS CRUSHED BY GATE: Greater Manchester Police has started a joint inquiry with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) following the death of a six-year-old girl who became trapped in an electric gate in Moss Side. A spokesman for Lowry Homes, which is building the development, said: "Lowry Homes is both saddened and shocked at the tragic incident at the Maine Road. The company is continuing to co-operate fully with the investigation.”
