THE CITY OF MANCHESTER (not Greater Manchester) has the lowest number of pensioners outside London - BBC research has revealed. Manchester has 22% of its population made up of pensioners, only nine boroughs of the capital have less. There are several reasons for this: greater immigration levels (immigrant groups have lower average ages), the high student population and the way Greater Manchester has developed.
In the seventies, eighties and nineties, as the economy declined, people fled to the outer suburbs. This left in some city areas pockets of extreme poverty. Low-education levels and poverty leads to shorter lives. Manchester Central MP Tony Lloyd is starkly quoted as saying: "When it comes to pension age, many here don't make it. They don’t live as long." Meanwhile pensioner levels in the Greater Manchester suburbs are similar to the rest of the country.
GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE is hoping to raise £3.5m by selling off disused police stations plus homes owned by the force for rent to officers. Properties are scattered around Greater Manchester and the money will be used to re-invest in capital investments.
JACK DUCKWORTH (Bill Tarmey, 69) is due to get a visit from the other side as he snuffs it in Corrie. In an emotional send off his wife, Vera Duckworth, will make a ghostly return as he dies peacefully in his armchair.
AMENAGHWON AUGUSTINE OSAIKHUIWOUMWAN has died after a serious fight in Park Nite Club in Grosvenor Street over the weekend. The police are treating the death as murder.

Surprised you haven't yet covered DCMS pulling funding for MOSI, PHM and the NFM. I assume MCC has already agreed to cover the shortfalls. Could you find out? Sorry about the alphabet soup!
