STUDENT PROTESTERS plague shocked shoppers: Peaceful protests saw 20 arrested as Manchester’s student rally on Saturday turned sour. As part of ‘A Future That Works’ campaign, organised by the NUS, UCU and TUC, a group of around 500 protestors surprised both police and fellow marchers. Protestors ran through the streets along Quay Street and Deansgate before being contained near the Hilton Hotel, with smaller groups at Piccadilly Gardens.
MAN CITY question men only zones: Blues’ chief communications officer, Vicky Kloss, is at the centre of another football controversy after yesterday’s FA Cup game against Notts County. The opposition’s policy restricted Kloss from entering the players’ tunnel saying it was off-limits to women. Kloss was finally allowed down the tunnel and the club denied accusations of sexism.
MANCHESTER LECTURE cancelled over Egypt’s tensions: The head of Antiquities of Egypt, Dr Zahi Hawass, has cancelled his meeting this Friday at Bridgewater Hall as Cairo curfews make flying impossible. Protests have now hit Sharm el-Sheikh forcing Dr Hawass to carry out his duties and re-schedule.
HUSBAND-TO-BE dies in car accident: Father of two Daniel Lee, 21, of Broadoak in Wythenshawe, was hit by a VW Golf on Plymouth Grove in the early hours of yesterday morning, and pronounced dead at the scene. The former care worker had been to a kebab shop with his sister, 14, and best friend, and was heading back to his mother’s on Kincardine Road to spend the night with his family. Lee had a fiancé, Katrina Older.
Out of the window weather forecast: Foggy and grey with biting temperatures - a bit like an LS Lowry painting, but with Grade A office buildings.
