MANCHESTER is where all the hot Labour Party stuff happens. On Saturday Ed Miliband beat off the challenge from older brother David Miliband by a margin of just over one percent – which was announced in the Labour Party conference taking place in the city. Rumours that David Miliband then went on a ‘big session’ in Black Dog Ballroom with Bruce Willis from the Captain America movie seem wide of the mark.

TERRY NEWTON, former Great Britain rugby league player, has been found hanged in a house in Orrell, Wigan. He was 31 years old and was serving a two-year suspension after testing positive for a human growth hormone (HGH). There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

HOLE IN THE WALL – literally. Acomplete cash machine has been stolen from a convenience store in Rochdale. On Friday 17 September 2010, three men attached a chain to the shutter covering the side door of Raja Brothers on Manchester Road, and attached the other end to their van. They pulled off the door and then dragged a cash machine from the floor. Detective Constable Sam Taylor, of Rochdale CID helpfully said: “If anybody has any information that will help our investigation, please get in touch.”

THE WHTWORTH ART GALLERY’S ‘The Land Between Us’ exhibition is causing a stir with the installation of a full birch wood in the gallery. The exhibition presents historic and modern works together and is introduced by an ‘interior wood’ from artist Olafur Eliasson.

Out of the window weather forecast: It’s raining heavily. Oh no, that’s the window cleaner. Looks chilly but brightish out there.
